August 3 & 5 2022: Indigo Workshop with Catharine

4 hours in total. 10am to 12pm each day

Location: zoom or Textile Museum, Washington, DC

Indigo will be harvested by Karthika on August 2. You are welcome to participate in this activity either at the farm in VA (1.5 hour drive from DC) or in DC

On August 3, using freshly harvested leaves of Indigo suffruticosa, Catharine will guide you to make a dye bath using a method she believes could have been used by the Huaca Prietans. Color cotton yarn with yellow and/or red ocher.

She will also set up a traditional organic natural reduction vat which can be used on August 5th

Dye 2 shades of indigo on pre-spun (handspun) yarn on August 5, using method developed by Catharine Ellis.


Fresh Indigofera suffruticosa leaves. Will be provided. $5
